- 6G XR is an experimental research infrastructure to enable next-generation XR services and strengthen European leadership in 6G technologies.

- Ericsson is collaborating with Telcaria, a Spanish SME specialized in the research and development of new telecommunication solutions and official collaborator of 5TONIC, for identifying innovative solutions for enhancing energy efficiency of end-to-end vertical applications relying on 5G Advanced technologies and its evolution towards 6G.

- 5TONIC’s commitment to cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary collaboration is reflected in its involvement in European projects of the European Union SNS program, like Desire 6G, Predict 6G, TrialsNet or 6G XR, as well as in projects of the Spanish UNICO I+D program such as 6G-DATADRIVEN, 6G-EDGEDT, SNS JU projects and ADVANCE_6G.
- In addition, the announcement of Cayetano Carbajo, Director for Core, Transport and Service Platforms at Global CTIO Telefónica, as the new President of 5TONIC represents a significant shift in the leadership and projection of the laboratory.

- IMDEA Networks has received the visit of the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Communication Services, the Head of the Cabinet, and the Deputy Director General of Planning and Management of the Radio Spectrum, among other high-ranking officials.
- The visit included a tour at 5TONIC and an integrated demonstration of digital twins, with integrated sensing and robotic control by 5G at 5TONIC.

As part of the UNICO R&D programme, aims to strengthen research, development and innovation to promote the consolidation of Spain as a leader in European and national projects in cloud infrastructure, edge computing technology, semiconductors and quantum communication.

- 5TONIC has signed a collaboration agreement with NEC Laboratories Europe to further research in 5G & 6G networks. This collaboration will facilitate the undertaking of various projects towards the development of flexible networks that support new use cases , as well as to the development of new technologies that will transform different sectors, including smart cities, communication, automotive, and Industry 4.0.

- 5TONIC has signed a collaboration agreement with GMV, a Spanish company that offers solutions, services, and products to a wide range of sectors, including telematics and software for the automotive industry. The purpose of this collaboration is to contribute to the success of the ERASMO project, which is funded by EUSPA (European Union Agency for the Space Programme) and was officially launched in June 2021.

- 5TONIC has just signed a collaboration agreement with Yerba Buena VR (YBVR), a company dedicated to the application of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies to user experiences in the entertainment and tourism sectors. This collaboration agreement will support the YBVR participation in different European projects involving 5TONIC and several of its members and collaborators.

- Last November 3rd 2022, the Steering Board of 5TONIC held a new Workshop. The purpose was to establish the objectives of the laboratory in an environment where 5G technology is already implemented in the main markets in its non-standalone version, and to have all the elements in place to facilitate the deployment of the following 5G stand-alone.

- End-to-end 5G standalone (SA) solution by Ericsson activated at 5TONIC 5G Open Innovation Lab and already in use for technical and business validation of different industry applications.
- The deployment involves Ericsson’s Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core solutions for 5G NR standalone, integrated in 5TONIC laboratory premises at IMDEA Networks Institute in Madrid.
- INNOVALIA, YBVR and ASTI are the first verticals to validate their solutions over the laboratory 5G SA deployment, in cooperation with Telefónica and UC3M.
- The new 5TONIC 5G SA core network is the first of its kind ready to support the innovation in industrial use cases deployed at an open European laboratory.

- Supported by a consortium of 18 industry-leading companies, the nearly three-year project 5G TRANSFORMER is part of the Horizon 2020 European Union Research and Innovation programme. The project is aimed at transforming the currently rigid mobile transport networks into a 5G dynamic system able to offer network slices tailored to the specific needs of various vertical industries.
